I found an Embassey Suites hotel that looks great. According to Mapquest it's about 2 miles to Workplay, and about 2 miles to Marty's. (maybe Vickie can confirm this for us) The hotel has a free shuttle for anything under 5 miles. High speed internet,Steakhouse on site, beautiful atrium (possible site for after hours fraufest) free breakfast, indoor heated pool, and decent rates ($135 for room with 2 doubles in advance) Also they have a fabulous happy hour from what I hear!

Didn't check all the extras but it's 5 miles from downtown and 10 miles from the airport. Rooms are $116.00 for double bed occupancy.

Tapp recommended staying on Lakeshore Drive away from Workplay. Lots of hotels etc. Don't know about shuttles though.

I would definitely go with Tapp's recommendations as far as the area to stay in.

Darn this economy! I would so love to get back to Birmingham. I just know it's going to be an awesome show. Can't wait to hear all about it. Although, if I win the lottery between now and then (hell, or just find a better job), I'll be there.

Liz's place might be good too though, because I hear the room also comes with a sleeper sofa and there is that shuttle option which is good too. So if enough of us are in on this, 2 rooms would be good too!

I'll ask Tapp's opinion on this place.

Bwahahah UHMAWH --- very important to have a hotel where we can have an after-hours fraufest!

I stayed at the Sheraton in B'ham last time I was there and they have free shuttle service to and from the airport and if I remember right the prices weren't too bad especially if you shared a room (trying to remember if they have a frau lounge though lol). We just got around in cabs for the rest of the trip and they weren't too expensive especially when shared. The only funny thing about the cabs was that sometimes the driver would have no idea where we were going -- he's ask US how to get to places like Laser's Edge. Pffft.

Liz....that price you quoted is the price if paid in full beforehand. Just FYI for anyone if this the way you want to go. Also there can be a discount using AAA card.

Probably don't want to do the pay beforehand price unless we are absolutely sure. I try to get the AAA rate whenever possible.

I want to go! Don't think I can afford it though. But I haven't given up all hope just yet...
