The Top 7 Perform - 4/14/09
Seacrest's Hair
We are on our own this week, as our colleagues are swamped with real-life duties. Meh. But before I begin, this very short message from Tight Black T: Quote:I hated pretty much everyone. They just can't choose the right songs. Of all the music they could pick, we end up with two pieces of Bryan Adams schlock? I didn't love Adam's performance, but he delivered as always. Anoop's performance was good, Allison didn't grab me, Danny was boring and should not have chosen the song because it was too emotional, Matt and Kris were just horrid, and I've just had it with Lil. Now on to what WE think... Allison sang the stupid asteroid song ("Don't Wanna Miss A Thing") and she was really breathy. We love her, but this is a godawful song, it was probably in the wrong key for her (transposition is not that hard) and there wasn't enough recognizable memory in some parts. A disappointment. Anoop sang "Everything I Do". He had a slightly harder, more mature tone than usual, which we appreciated. The thing we disliked the most was the swoopy grace-note-y thing on the last note. He can stick around. Adam (they toploaded the A's) sang "Born To Be Wild". Oh yum. One note in and we melted. We the dancing, hip-swiveling, leaping, yeah. And the bridge/breakdown with the band, that was just perfect. Who else can interact so enthusiastically with the band and not injure himself? Yeah, baby. More of that!Matt sang "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman". We hate this song, really really hate it. In fact, we can pretty much say that of all seven songs, there were only two we didn't hate (Adam's, obviously, and Kris's, more on that below). Anyway, Matt was very pitchy in his melismas, and there were way too many melismas. (If you don't know what that means, Randy's term for it is "runs". It's like song diarrhea.) We liked the plain parts of the song better. Danny sang "Endless Love". It was pitchy at the beginning, and thus we have to wonder: should he just give up doing intros at all? Seriously, just jump right into the chorus, or really shake things up and start with the bridge. The intros NEVER EVER WORK for him, even per his own fans. We're not going to like him any better, but at least we won't have to listen to pitchy, boring intros. Kris sang "Falling Slowly", and the reason we do not outright hate this song as mentioned above is... we have no idea what it is. Never heard it before. Never heard of the movie "Once" either. It's a pretty boring song, though, not much in the way of melody, which is generally a bad idea on this show. Lil sang "The Rose". You would not believe how much we hate this song. We sang it for four years in girls' choir in high school. We know it intimately. We hate it. HATE. But as to Lil: first we wondered why she got the "pimp" spot, and then we realized that, actually, they were hoping to run long and cut her off this week. Kris had the pimp spot! But seriously, folks. The arrangement of "The Rose" was awful (verse cuts = bad), the melisma was way too much and horrific and pointless, and Lil needs to go away. Granted, she finally actually used her voice this week, but she cannot be allowed to argue with Simon. No.Lil had better be gone. Matt, Danny, Kris and Allison could all be at risk to round out the bottom 3, depending on who has the laziest fans. Anoop too, actually, even though he had a good performance. Only Adam is safe right now -- yes, even though people are still afraid of The Gays. |

RE: The Top 7 Perform - 4/14/09
Adam did deliver performance wise, but as a huge fan of that song, I just could not stand hearing his voice singing it. Sorry. JMHO
Danny disappointed me big time with his choice of songs. He may not be reminding people of his wife's death by talking about her, but he is doing it every week with his choice of song. I still love him, and think vocally he should win (my opinion y'all. LOL I just personally do not like Adam's voice, sorry), but he really, really, really needs to pick better songs. Really. The rest were just meh....when Simon and Paula were praising Alison I was like - "was I hearing something different from what they heard?" As for who is safe/going home - I peeked at dialidol.com and surprisingly, Danny was listed as first, then LIL (WTF???) with Adam in third. What I did notice was how close the range was - it's really anybody's game tonight - if you put any stock in dialidol that is. Really disappointing season all in all for me. ~V "If you don't have it around the house, you go find it somewhere else." ~~ Taylor Hicks

RE: The Top 7 Perform - 4/14/09
I agree that Danny needs to up his game and pick better songs if he wants to stick around. I love him, but I do have to say that he needs to stop coasting!
Adam rocks my socks, I just can't help it! Allison is usually awesome, but yeah, that song was totally in the wrong key for her. NoopDawg was great, Matt was soooo shaky, Kris was actually quite good, but oh, dear... poor Lil. ![]() I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.... ![]() Go check out my online art gallery ---> http://www.artwanted.com/sgwilliams |

RE: The Top 7 Perform - 4/14/09
I love Kris' manner and soft delivery even though I don't think he's the greatest vocalist. I just think he has that strong likability that will keep him popular. I agree that Danny always sounds better on the strong phrasings like the chorus. I could listen to Adam sing the phonebook on the radio or I could watch him with the volume off. Either one. Having the delicious treat of sight and sound all at once is the most fun I've had watching TV in ages.
