marymagdalene's drawings
I just wanted you to see this sketch that I did YEARS ago, and even though that I suck at doing portraits (generally speaking), I am proud of this one...

I did this with a single stick of mechanical drafting pencil lead as I could not find either a regular pencil OR the refillable drafting pencil...

This was my model, so to speak:

This is what I ended up with:

When photographing these things, I should remember NOT to use the flash, which makes a HUGE difference, as Sketch #1 is w/out flash whereas Sketch #2 is w/flash...

I could have sworn that I thought I had rotated the sketches on PhotoBucket to be vertical, not horizontal, so many apologies in advance!

I got a sketch pad for my birthday in 1990, and had a BLAST fooling around with it, as I think I filled it up pretty quickly...

While I was cleaning the house many years ago, I put it someplace where I would remember where it was...

Several years went by, and it slipped from my mind... Over the past couple of years, I remembered about it, and went through a couple of rooms where it could be...
Guess what? I do not remember where it is!

But fortunately, I just thought that I seem to remember that my Mom & I put a LOT of Broadway and music stuff in my old toy chest in my room, and I betcha that is where that is...

Unfortunately, my stereo system is on my toy chest, so I will have to pick up the stereo and appropriate speakers to see if said sketch book is inside...

I hope to add to my collection of sketches here over the next few weeks...

MM ~ I hope you find your sketch pad. It would be great to see your others.

I have ZERO talent in the drawing area.

RE: marymagdalene's drawings
Must have been difficult (and messy on your hands LOL) to do that with just a small piece of lead! Like you did with your drawing, I'm only able to draw things while looking at a photo or object. The only thing I can draw just using my imagination is mountains, trees and streams...and they're not too great LOL. I should find my stuff and post a thread too....I enjoy looking at all the members drawings here so maybe I should share Smile

I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
The sinners are much more fun 666

DG & FT:
Thank you so much for the compliments!

Doing something like this, I DO need something to look at, but when I have sketched Snoopy, Wizard of Id, Doonesbury, Bugs Bunny, and a few others, people have told me that they would be hard-pressed to figure out which was the original and mine...

Horses, boxes, and "Kilroy" are just about the only things I can draw without a model...

Yes, as one can imagine, it was rather difficult and messy using a single piece of lead instead of a real pencil, but I somehow managed to succeed nevertheless...
Even though it is a mechanical pencil, it is called a "Lead Holder" as the stick of lead is 2mm, or .07874 of an inch, so it is just a bit wider than a standard .07mm pencil...

Here are links to pictures of both the lead that I used, and the pencil that I SHOULD have used:

FT:
You should start a thread of your own work... It would be interesting!
