RE: Book Corner
After meeting my summer goal of three books (I actually read four), I've continued my reading on the treadmill and while waiting for my daughter at soccer fields and gyms. My recent reading has been diverse.

The Red Tent. I highly recommend it. As Mari told her mother, it's bible stories without all the men. Haha Seriously, it's a wonderful look at the time before Jesus from the perspective of women.

I am currently reading two books at the same time. Cuba Diaries, An American Housewife in Havana by Isadora Tattlin was recommended to me by Mari. An American woman married to a foreign businessman, moves to Havana with her family in the mid-90's. She keeps a journal on her four years in Cuba. A fascinating read about a fascinating country.

Nowhere to Run: The Story of Soul Music by Gerri Hirshey is an absolute must read. I am only about 72 pages in but I am hooked. I am actually taking notes while reading. So much of what we music lovers talk about and complain about regarding music and the industry today, she addresses in this book written in 1984. Last night I read a quote that jumped out at me:

Unfortunately we're running a big business here now, and it sort of . . . well, it drives you away from the music you like, which you know is not gonna sell very much but should be recorded just for the musical value of it. We have our hands full with the important artists who are selling four million albums and you can't let them down. - Ahmet Ertegun, Co-founder of Atlantic Records

I know you'll be hearing more about this book from me in the future!

RE: Book Corner
I read all the "Vicki Nelson" series of books by Tanya Huff. These books were the inspiration for the Lifetime TV series, "Blood Ties". It is about a love triangle between a P.I. (Vicki Nelson), a Det. Sgt. for the Toronto Metro Police (Mike Celluci), and a 450 year old vampire who is the bastard son of King Henry VIII (Henry Fitzroy). Great supernatural stories and interweaving of characters.

Keep a weather eye on the horizon.

RE: Book Corner
I've been reading a few James Patterson and Stephen King books. I finally read Duma Key and just finished King's new novel that is a collection of short stories, Just After Sunset.

From JP, I read Cross Country, Sail and am now reading Daniel X.

Cross Country was amazing and the plot takes Cross to Africa and touches on the horrible genocide and other atrocities that are prominent in Africa as we speak. Dafur etc.

RE: Book Corner
I read some James Patterson a while back. My mother was reading him and was appalled that both I and my grandmother enjoyed The Beach House (I think she was more appalled about Gram) because of the sex and violence. Haha

I'm actually not reading anything right now but I plan on picking up Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers, about how people become successful (it has nothing to do with talent and everything to do with hard work), and The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker, which is about listening to your instincts and not being "nice" to people you have a bad feeling about (and stalkers).

Should we put these in a gift bag for Taylor when we go to Maryland? Wink

RE: Book Corner
I am a huge fan of Robert Ludlum. I would recommend the first Ludlum book I read years ago which got me hooked on Ludlum.

The Apocalypse Watch: http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/displ...0553569575

I recently finished The Judas Strain by James Rollins and loved it.

Right now I am reading John Lennon, The Life by Philip Norman. http://www.amazon.com/John-Lennon-Life-P...006075401X

I am a huge fan of John Lennon and I have read a lot about him in the past. This book is comprehensive and I am really enjoying it.
