RE: Rolling Stone's 100 Best Albums of the 80's
I would put their #5 as my #1. Graceland was not only the best album of the decade but possibly one of the best of all time. I always thought I didn't listen to much music in the 80s, but I do see some favorites there from Sting and the Police, Neil Young, Lou Reed, the Talking Heads, U2, John Mellencamp, Anita Baker, etc. Maybe it wasn't such a bad decade after all!

RE: Rolling Stone's 100 Best Albums of the 80's
I don't think I bought a lot of music in the 80's, but after reading the list I guess I did enjoy some 80's music.
while going down the rabbit hole after reading this I found this quote in the 100 Best Singers article... "The beauty of the singer's voice touches us in a place that's as personal as the place from which that voice has issued. If one of the weird things about singers is the ecstasy of surrender they inspire, another weird thing is the debunking response a singer can arouse once we've recovered our senses. It's as if they've fooled us into loving them, diddled our hard-wiring, located a vulnerability we thought we'd long ago armored over. Falling in love with a singer is like being a teenager every time it happens." It so reminded me of our response to Taylor

He certainly diddled my hard-wiring!
With all the techie effects and auto tuning going on, I wonder if today's artists will ever touch that nerve in their listeners? Now I can't wait for Taylor to move to Nashville-B'ham-NYC-LA-Orange Beach-East Bumblefuck in June-Aug-Sept-Dec and work on his roots-americana-jazz-rock-blues-country-soul-rap-jackson browne-elvis album, so that we can listen to it in Jan-March-May 2012! - Freebird |
