American Idol Live Season 9 Wachovia Center Philadelphia July 11 2010

Canceled dates, mediocre reviews and the general consensus that 2010 might have been the worst season of American Idol ever I had no idea what to expect from this show I was pleasantly surprised. (see hot men of summer to find out why I went in the first place)

Th format was similar to last year counting backwards to the winner with each Idol having his or her own set. And yes there were lots of guitars!

Part 1-Didi Benami -Andrew Garcia-Katie Stevens-Tim Urban-Siobhan Magnus-Aaron Kelly

Unfortunately Didi was not the most upbeat show starter (unlike Michael Sarver Season 8 but I'm not here to compare just report) and I wondered why she was even in 10th place.

Andrew was entertaining and sounded wonderful. He has a quirky personality and that allowed him to engaged the audience.

Seventeen year old (17) Katie belted out some Christina Aguilera like a pro. Allowing her to sing what she feels comfortable with shows off her voice to its best advantage. Being a bit of a looker won't hurt her career in the future either..

Tim Urban is the tween girl heartthrob! I thought the two young ladies next to me were going to explode when his name appeared across the stage and the din in the auditorium hit the first high decibel of the night. Tim pulled out his guitar and his famous smile and serenaded his fans which lead me to believe he will have a great career in acting.

Siobhan Magnus Perhaps Liz can tell us what is in the water in Cape Cod. Her style does kind of eclipse her voice. She was wearing a pink tutu, fishnets and kick ass laced up Diesel type boots. Along with the Stones she did some obscure new music and I applaud her for taking Idol into the here & now; but I was still more focused on her outfit.

High School Student Aaron Kelly was the first surprise of the evening. Damn this kid can sing and his stage presence was amazing. Sticking to country music he worked that stage and the crowd like a entertainer well beyond his seventeen years. During his Idol run it was never mentioned that he won the Disney Idol Experience, thus insuring him a place before the final judges. In the past besides going to school Aaron has been an opening act for a number of country stars his experienced showed and young and old loved his set.
