The Morning After Thread - 5/25/10
Well America, it's up to you. You get to pick the winner of American Idol Season 9. Aren't you excited?
![]() While I do find both Crystal and Lee to be talented, I feel that this year's winner will be the least talented, least charismatic winner ever crowned by AI. I keep thinking how people who placed 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th in previous seasons are saying damn, I should have been on this year. I watched Elliott on AI Season 5 Rewind yesterday. E could have won Season 9, hands down, no contest. That boy can sang!!! Lee had the chance to win this thing last night. He's had momentum for the past few weeks and also had the judges backing. He chose the wrong song for himself ("The Boxer"), the song they chose for him was too sad ("Everybody Hurts") and the song he'll release as a single if he wins ("Beautiful Day') was just a mess. And while praised was heaped upon Crystal, I didn't feel she did all that much better. Two of her three songs involved too much screaming ("Me and Bobby McGee" and "Black Velvet") and the third ("Up To The Mountain") while better, does not seem like a song that would be released to radio today. But even with this snoozefest of a season, tonight's finale will be must see TV for a number of reasons. Joe Cocker, Simon's farewell and Taylor back on Idol will be some of the reasons I'll be watching. So, with all that, who do I want to win? Well, I already own a Lee DeWyze CD.

RE: The Morning After Thread - 5/25/10
I agree that past seasons 3-4 and even 5th palce contestants are kicking themselves for not waiting until this season.
Never liked Lee don't think he can sing live (not bad recorded) but since when is one of the last two standing still "pitchy" and off key. That being said I liked Crystal last night but again not the best contestant I've ever heard on Idol. What happened to the talent from Seasons like 5 & 8. Where are the personalities of Taylor, Ace, Elliot, Adam and even Danny Gokey. The big finale seems like it is worth watching with Taylor & Elliot and I f course am watching to see Casey James again (who I think will do well after Idol. He has the guitar chops, a bluesy voice, the fortitude that comes with being a bar singer and of course the looks). Idol has been very good to Taylor this year he was mentioned a few times, his homecoming clip was shown and he has been invited back to say farewell to Simon ![]() Maybe Taylor's big news is that he will be a judge on Idol for Season 10. I a think rotating 4th judge all Idol alumni would be brilliant! I was wise enough to never grow up while fooling most people into believing I had. -Margaret Mead |

I've thought of this as well. That would be awesome and I think Taylor would make a very good judge. My understanding is that nobody but Ryan is committed for Season 10. There has been a lot of rumor floating about re: format changes etc. - moving to the show to NYC, Big Brother style housing situation. NYC would be cool. They tried the house thing in Season 8, problem was, they liked each other. Not good television!

I always thought the demographic of the AI live "boys" bus for Season 8 was interesting.
Three church leaders, a Hindu, the piano guy, a blind guy and one flamboyant gay man. And they all got along just fine I was wise enough to never grow up while fooling most people into believing I had. -Margaret Mead |

RE: The Morning After Thread - 5/25/10
I have not watched AI in several years now but did tune in last night in case Taylor was in the audience. So this was the first time I heard either contestant sing and I was not impressed or moved by either. I felt bored with all 3 of Lee's songs. I haven't heard his recorded music. But what I heard last night did not impress me.
Crystal was better but she didn't impress or move me either. I love the BobbyMcGee song but her version was boring to me. Her winner song was not bad. Definatly the better of the two. And I also felt like she was screaming many times. Anyway, just thought I'd add my two cents...for what they're worth. |
