Grease: Frighteningly in tune with today - 4/8/10
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts...le1528106/

Quote:While the current tour was cast by old-fashioned auditions, there is still a reality-TV hook. An American Idol winner named Taylor Hicks plays Teen Angel in the Beauty School Dropout sequence, serenading Frenchy (Kate Morgan Chadwick) after emerging from a giant ice-cream cone. Because Hicks is the name draw, this song goes on for a very long time. It stops the show, but not in a good way.

If that's not enough for Hicks's Soul Patrol fans, however, after a protracted curtain call that recaps all the Grease hits that featured in the popular nineties dance megamix (Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, You're the One That I Want), Hicks returns to the stage to awkwardly jiggle a bit more while singing his country single, Seven Mile Breakdown, accompanying himself on harmonica.

"Thanks for coming to Grease!" Hicks says afterward, in case the audience had forgotten what they came to see (I almost had), before dashing off into the lobby to sign autographs.

"I didn't hear a thing after he's wood." - Mac, Brooklyn Bowl

I went to the website listed and caught this comment by WHODAT:
"...I was very pleasantly surprised with Taylor Hicks's performance during "Beauty School Dropout". He brought life back into the show, and certainly got a great reaction from the audience. I think you're being a little to hard on the guy. The song after the curtain call was catchy, and I did see people picking up his CD afterwards so clearly it worked.
I personally would recomend the show to a friend."

Also in the article was the remark that the writer DID enjoy the show, despite his criticism!

Who could ask for anything more?!?!

Half a bubble off of plumb

All I know is, in Buffalo, his song brought some life back into the show and the audience.

"...cause boots makes your fuckin’ feet sore when you are dancing." ~ Taylor Hicks
