The Top 10 Girls Perform - 3/3/12
All day, we waited to hear what was happening with Crystal Bowersox. Would she perform? If she couldn't, what would happen? Ryan interviewed Idol's executive producer on his radio show and they discussed what would happen if Crystal could not perform. Basically, she would be out of the competition. As of 6:30 EST there was no word. Finally, at 7:50 pm Ryan tweeted that she was a go. Oh the drama of American Idol.

Crystal Bowersox was the first performer of the night, doing “Long as I Can See A Light” by Creedence Clearwater. What an amazing performance. The song showed off her voice beautifully. This girl is the real deal. Simon compared that performance to the moment when they knew Kelly Clarkson was going to win. High praise from Simon. But so well deserved.

Haeley Vaughn, my very least favorite girl "singer" in the competition performed Miley Cyrus' “The Climb.” Now I am by no means a Mylie Cyrus fan but I really don't mind Mylie's performance of this song. But this performance, holy crap was that awful. I am not sure how this kid made it here at all.

Last week, Kara suggested that Lacey Brown sing “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer. Lacey, in her package piece, tells us she had been thinking about doing that song. It was definitely more suited to her voice, a little cutesy if you ask me. But I'm not a fan of her voice.

Told last week that the song she sang was too old for her, Katie Stevens tried her hand at "Put Your Records On" by Corrine Bailey Rae. She seemed a little shaky at the beginning and got better at the end when she let lose. Again they weren't happy with her song choice, claiming it was still old and recommending that she look to artists under the age of 20. Okay judges, have you ever thought that maybe she has better musical taste than that? Seriously, what a crap recommendation.

Didi Benami's choice of “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers was a bit surprising. Her voice has a very unique quality and is definitely not suited to soul. Randy was right in saying that it highlighted what she can’t do. There were okay parts, but I don’t agree with the judges assessment that she has a great voice.

Another odd song choice was made by Michelle Delamor singing Creed's “With Arms Wide Open.” I give her credit for not choosing a safe song. She does have a lovely voice, but not particularly strong. She did that "making it your own" thing the judges talk about so often and got credit for it.

When I heard Lilly Scott was going to sing Sam Cooke's “A Change is Gonna Come” I cringed. I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to Sam. I thought it was good but can't give it the praise she got from the judges.

Katelyn Epperly really surprised me with her performance of Coldplay's “The Scientist.” While the tempo of the performance was plodding, her voice was gorgeous. I think I need to keep an eye on her.

Paige Miles is not Kelly Clarkson, but she did a pretty decent job with Clarkson's “Walk Away.” She has a very good voice but has yet to pick a song that really showcases what she can do.

The final performer of the night was quirky Cape Coder Siobhan Magnus. Siobhan singing Aretha? I was prepared for a trainwreck. Well, damn. There were parts that were good, and there were parts that were just amazing. That big note just came out of nowhere. Who knew. A dark horse indeed.

Okay, so who goes:
Guys: Jermaine Sellers and Tim Urban.
Girls: Haeley Vaughn (please God) and Michelle Delamor
