"The Distance" #12 of 2009 Idol Releases
Thanks to Margaux at NESP for this find.
USA's IdolChatter has published a list of all Idol releases of 2009, ranked by sales. THE DISTANCE by Taylor Hicks is #12 at 45,000, just behind Elliot Yamin at 48,000, and better than Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard. Does anyone know if this count includes records sold at GREASE and shadow shows? The top 10 for the curious: 1. Carrie Underwood, Play On (1.205 million) 2. Daughtry, Leave This Town (890,000) 3. Kellie Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted (819,000) 4. Adam Lambert, For Your Entertainment (445,000) 5. Kris Allen, Kris Allen (233,000) 6. David Archuleta, Christmas From the Heart (211,000) 7. Jordin Sparks, Battlefield (158,000) 8. Mandisa, Freedom (86,000) 9. Allison Iraheta, Just Like You (77,000) 10. Melinda Doolittle, Coming Back to You (53,000) The entire list here.. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/...rom-2009/1 "I didn't hear a thing after he's wood." - Mac, Brooklyn Bowl |

I don't think they would count as 'sales' Mac. But I am not sure.

That was actually Margaux's question. My answer to her was that I had heard the 40,000+ number for quite a while so I didn't think it included anything he sold through Grease. I actually think they can only count sales made through certain outlets but I could be wrong. I do remember him saying he wanted to get to 80,000 through Grease sales.

I would love to know the true total he has sold. Outlets and Grease.

I would think if "Grease" CD sales do not count toward the sales numbers, it would be beneficial to his career as an indie artist to "leak" the number at the end of his "Grease" run.
Now I can't wait for Taylor to move to Nashville-B'ham-NYC-LA-Orange Beach-East Bumblefuck in June-Aug-Sept-Dec and work on his roots-americana-jazz-rock-blues-country-soul-rap-jackson browne-elvis album, so that we can listen to it in Jan-March-May 2012! - Freebird |
