Let's Talk Turkey
So, what's Thanksgiving like in your neck of the woods? How do you like to spend the day? Any favorite recipes to share? Hard to believe it's just around the corner!

put butter in between his thighs and he will slide right through the door Haha

RE: Let's Talk Turkey
I'll be bringing Thanksgiving dinner to the house of my MIL, Mary. She's 92 and still lives in her own home. Chubbystillkindahubby and my mom and brother will join us. Mary's favorite pastime is cards, so after dinner we all prepare to lose a nickel or three to this sharp cookie. My role is to make da mammas laugh. That reminds me. I must visit the Joke thread before next Thursday. For me, as long as I have two days off from work and there are mashed potatoes, gravy, football, and a well stoked fire I'll be a happy camper.

Now I can't wait for Taylor to move to Nashville-B'ham-NYC-LA-Orange Beach-East Bumblefuck in June-Aug-Sept-Dec and work on his roots-americana-jazz-rock-blues-country-soul-rap-jackson browne-elvis album, so that we can listen to it in Jan-March-May 2012! - Freebird

RE: Let's Talk Turkey
I will be working in the unit on Thanksgiving. I will enjoy a delicious pressed turkey product, warmed up frozen dressing, luke warm canned veggies, and a burned roll. I believe there should be pumpkin pie with a cardboard piecrust, with a dollop of cool whip on top. whaaa, whaaaa, whaaaa Cry I am sure all my patients will be sick, and whinny!
And of course by Sunday (yes I am working the whole damned weekend) everyone will look up from yet another meal that mamma has been slaving over, as well as cleaning the house for the week before the big meal, keeping the grandkids so all the mammas can go shopping on black Friday, breaking up the fights with the son-in-laws when they get drunk on Saturday night, cooking, cooking, cooking and washing all those dishes while the rest of the family is planted in front of the tv. They will look at mamma and say ... hmmmm mamma don't look good, and drag her to the er .... holidays are so much fun when you are a nurse!!!

I do hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, with good food, family, and a comfy spot on the couch for the afternoon snooze through the ballgame!

I edited this to remove the cuss words!!! forgot where I was!!!

Hmmm....Thanksgiving lasts two days at my husband's daughter's house. One for the kids, one for the grown-ups (Thank you, God). I have to supply 12 boxes of instant dressing and a couple dozen deviled eggs. They don't know I can cook and don't anybody tell 'em!

RE: Let's Talk Turkey
Working this year until 1pm. Making "my guys" brunch. We usually go to my aunt's for dinner, but this year they are in the process of moving so we'll just be home. My brothers go to their in-laws for Thanksgiving. I'm going non-traditional which makes my daughter happy. Making my homemade sauce, meatballs, lasagna. We never eat turkey any other day of the year!

RE: Let's Talk Turkey
I always bake pumpkin pies, using my great-grandmother's recipe, and I make devilled eggs in the unique way that my mom always did (with vinegar and sugar)! The turkey and other fixings are left up to Dad, because he's a waaaay better cook than me. Alas, I have to work on Black Friday, but that's nothing new for me! Tongue

RE: Let's Talk Turkey
I'm always stuck in "traditional Thanksgiving food" mode and I love cooking all day and having the smells in the house -- pumpkin bread, turkey and dressing, buttercup squash, etc. We rarely have the big family get-together since my family is scattered far and wide. So the three of us take our time plowing into enough food to feed us for a week (and it does). My mother in law bought us one of those cheesy Ron Popeil rotisseries, and we always do the turkey in it. "Set it....and forget it"! Haha However, it's one of the most delicious things you'll ever taste....yummmmm -- always cooked through and never dry.

Other than that, we watch the Macy parade on TV and make sure Santa and the balloons make it safely down Fifth Avenue, LOL When my son was little we used to go to that parade since my sister in law lives near the Natural History Museum. We used to go see them blowing up the big balloons the night before --- always a fun party atmosphere.

RE: Let's Talk Turkey
Well, I finally managed to confirm my plans... after setting up Macy's for Black Friday on Wednesday, I'm slogging down to CT and fixing my ex-boss's office network, then baking pies for a few hours. There aren't too many of us and one is a vegetarian and one is a breadatarian so Mom and I will make a turkey breast and vast quantities of sides. We eat around 1 or 2 and then watch a movie... this year I'm pushing to see Planet 51 at the theater down the street instead of watching something on DVD. And this year I don't have to drive back to NH to work Black Friday, because I flat out refused and dared them to fire me. Haha Never gonna happen! So I'll spend the rest of the weekend doing family things and working remotely on my website projects and reintroducing myself to the cats. Smile
