As you all know, the 8th anniversary of that most horrific day is fast approaching.
My brother, Alex, once worked in NYC for approximately 18 months at 7 World Trade Center in the early 1990s, and was there for the truck bombing, which I call the "First Incident". He took pictures of the autos coming out of the parking garage that were right at the epicenter, next to the Ryder rental truck. So on that fateful day, September 11, 2001, when I heard that 7 WTC fell, that was what hurt me the most, as I had emotional ties to that building. Not only that, my brother laid down a lot of the wiring on a couple the floors for the company he worked for. So Alex called that Thursday night, and I answered. He said, "NYC. Sunday." I replied, "Yes." With that, I knew that he and I would be making a trip to see how close to Ground Zero we could get. So with no further ado, some pictures... We got off the subway in Chinatown, and you can tell by the really cool streetlamp fixtures: ![]() ![]() This one shows we were at the intersection of William & John Streets: ![]() I saw this, and had to take a picture of it: ![]() I took this picture of the CVS Pharmacy on Fulton Street to give myself a sense of perspective: ![]() 5 World Trade Center, from the intersection of Dutch & Fulton Streets: ![]() The red arrow is a section of 7 WTC: ![]() ![]() If you want to see the rest of my 9/11 photo album, here is the link: http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y300/ma...209-16-01/ If you want to see the photos of the February 1993 WTC bombing, here is that album's link: http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y300/ma...ry%201993/ FYI, my brother Alex had recently gotten a fish-eye lens, so he was experimenting with it in the first couple of photos... |

Mary, amazing photos. Thank you for sharing them.
What is so haunting is seeing the bombing pics from 03 and the WTC and knowing that in 8 years they'd not be standing there anymore. So surreal. |
